Baños left a lasting impression with its unique charm, though caution is advised, especially at night, due to encounters with individuals attempting robbery or offering potent moonshine. Despite not exploring the coast, locals highly praise its beauty.

While Guayaquil is undeniably cool, the current rise in cartel activity has heightened safety concerns, leading to a surge in senseless violence. Quito, on the other hand, offers great experiences, with numerous hikes in the vicinity, albeit mostly at high altitudes. The arid, desert-like landscapes might not appeal to those seeking mycology adventures.

For a vacation itinerary, my recommendation would be to journey from Baños to the coastal areas en route to the Galapagos. Explore the Amazon in Baños, soak in the historical and cultural richness of Quito, and then venture to the coast, perhaps spending time in Manta before heading to the Galapagos. Additionally, there are more budget-friendly islands near the Galapagos that boast equal beauty at a fraction of the cost."
